Why niche marketing Is Effective

Niche marketing is really about selling “ice to Eskimos.” I know you’ve no doubt heard all the jokes about ice and Eskimos, mostly related to how difficult it would be selling something to a people who seemingly wouldn’t need it.

But the fact is that niche marketing is about carving out your place within a market of existing buyers.

All sales & marketing campaigns are based on the perception of a need and filling that void. Now the need may or may not exist. Remember the “Pet Rock”; who needed that?

So why is niche marketing so effective?

People in general are motivated by 3 things – want, need and desire. Pay close attention to commercials on television and keep in mind that the advertisers are spending millions to get there message across. Commercials are aimed at 2 emotional triggers – pleasure and pain. Pain being the more powerful of the two motivators.

Consider the following…

After a routine physical and blood test, you get a call from your doctor asking you to come by his office. “What is it doctor?” His reply something along the line of, I’d rather discuss it with you in person.

Your anxiety level begins to explode off the chart as you mind begins to race. Is it cancer, heart diseases, something worse?

You get to the doctors office, and your anxiety continues to swell as you wait – impatiently.

Finally, it’s your turn. Well doc, what is it? The doctor slowly begins to to tell you that you have… (XXXX)

Think of some embarrassing social condition and fill in the blank.

These are the kinds of things you don’t even want to discuss with your best friend or family, let alone a spouse or significant other. (Remember Magic Johnson)

Despite everything you were told by the doctor, you gonna want to find out everything you can about your condition and possible treatments on your own. But it’s embarrassing, right?

The easiest and most logical place to go for information and possible solutions is… the Internet, where you can search, go to forums, and even interact with total anonymity. You can do all of this without the added burden of embarrassment.

Where there is PAIN, there are motivated buyers!

Pain is a real motivator. It is even more powerful than pleasure.

If you own a site in a niche that provides relief to pain, there is a good chance you’ll make sales, and quickly.

You don’t have to do a lot to convince desperate people. They’re surfing the net with credit card in hand.

This is why niche marketing is effective. You can position yourself within the stream of desperate buyers (with a decent product) and reap the profits.

Want to make money fast. Choose niches that provide answers and solutions to life’s most embarrassing and shameful issues.

Here are a few to consider:

  • Really bad acne
  • Bumps and lumps
  • Eczema
  • Breast problems (too big, too small, asymmetrical)
  • Bumps of penis
  • Genital warts
  • Hemorrhoids
  • Man Boobs
  • Hair loss
  • Erectile dysfunction

You don’t have to attack the entire niche, just carve out your slice. Where there is pain, there is definitely gain with niche marketing.
